On 16 November, the 5th Design-Empowered Rural Revitalisation (Western China) Innovative Education Forum was successfully held in Chongqing. The forum was jointly hosted by Chongqing Higher Education Expo, Chongqing Jiaotong University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES), and the China Higher Education Training Centre. As an important component of the 62nd China Higher Education Expo, the forum aimed to inject new vitality and innovative ideas into rural revitalisation in Western China through the power of design education.
Distinguished guests attended the forum, including Professor Xia Chunming, Vice President of Shanghai University of Engineering Science; Professor Sun Fangcheng, Vice Chairman of Chongqing Higher Education Association and former President of Chongqing Technology and Business University; Shen Xi, Party Secretary of Jiaxing University; Li Zao, Vice President of Anhui Jianzhu University; Zhang Ming, Vice President of Chongqing Jiaotong University; and Guo Qingsheng, Secretary-General of the Future Designer Competition Organising Committee. Relevant representatives from SUES also attended, including Rao Pinhua, Director of the Academic Affairs Office; Wang Di, Director of the Engineering Education Development Centre; and Gu Yi, Dean of International Institute of Creative Design (IICD).
Professor Xia Chunming chaired the morning session of the forum. He emphasised that the forum aimed to promote deep integration between design education and rural revitalisation through sharing and exchange, exploring the unique roles and values of design in rural revitalisation, thus contributing our wisdom and strength to rural revitalisation initiatives in this new era.
Dean Gu Yi hosted the afternoon session. During the session, the ceremony for the release of The Power of Design—National Universities' Innovative Cases for Design-Empowered Rural Revitalisation was held, along with an awards presentation for individuals selected as Advanced Individuals for Design-Empowered Rural Revitalisation.
The successful holding of this forum not only highlighted the leadership and influence of Shanghai University of Engineering Science in the field of design education, but also provided more opportunities and challenges for the university's future development. SUES will continue to contribute significantly to promoting the advancement of design education and rural revitalisation in the future.
