In November 2024, students from the Class of 2022 at the International Institute of Creative Design (IICD) participated in a unique animation competition held in Busan, South Korea—the 2024 Busan Jung-gu Animation Competition. This event aimed to promote the distinctive charm and cultural heritage of Jung-gu district in Busan through animated works, attracting enthusiastic participation from many talented students both domestically and internationally. Through innovative design concepts, excellent teamwork, and a deep exploration of Jung-gu's cultural characteristics, students from our institute achieved impressive results, bringing honour to IICD.
In the competition, student teams conducted extensive research into the rich historical and cultural heritage of Busan's Jung-gu district, skilfully integrating these urban elements into their animated creations. From historical architecture to unique local customs, the students vividly and expressively presented Jung-gu's charm through their animations, allowing viewers to feel immersed in the district's vibrant streets and alleys, experiencing the city's unique appeal.
After intense competition and rigorous evaluation by the judging panel, three teams from our institute stood out and won awards. The animation 갈매기 (Seagull) earned the Grand Prize, created by Shen Xinyue, Zhang Yujie, Zhou Man, and Zhou Yuetong. Also birds 중구 received the Excellence Award, with team members Lu Wenwen, Li Xinting, and Li Jiaying. Meanwhile, 小熊猫的釜山旅行日记 (Little Panda's Busan Travel Diary), produced by Wu Yan, Tian Quhui, and Wang Xiaoyang, also achieved recognition. These award-winning works not only showcased the students’ solid professional skills but also demonstrated their exceptional ability in cultural integration and creativity. Each piece was vibrant, imaginative, and warmly received by judges and audiences alike.
These awards are not only an affirmation of the students' academic achievements but also a recognition of their innovative capabilities and cultural literacy. By participating in international competitions of this calibre, students not only enhance their professional skills but also broaden their global perspectives and strengthen their intercultural communication and collaboration capabilities, positively influencing their future academic and career development.
