On November 23rd, the 2024 International Conference on Digital Innovation and the 5th International Forum on Scientific Design Development, hosted by the International Institute of Creative Design (IICD), took place at the Industry-Education Integration Building on the Changning campus. Vice President Wang Yansong attended the event, alongside distinguished guests including Professor Kim Myoun from Korea's Pukyong National University, Professor Dong Hua from Brunel University London, Professor Kim Sehwa from Dongseo University, Professor Gu Chuanxi from Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Professor Gu Yi, Dean of IICD, and Professor Kim Jongki, Dean of the Korean side of IICD. The opening ceremony was hosted by Xu Rongrong, Vice Dean of IICD.
Vice President Wang Yansong delivered the opening address. He stated that, with the rapid advancement of digital technology, innovative applications within the design field have become increasingly widespread. The integration of digital technology and design innovation has become a focal point of global academia and industry. The forum aims to provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas, explore the intersection between digital technology and design innovation, and jointly promote innovation and development in the design field.
Professor Ying Fangtian from Zhejiang University, who is a member of the European Academy of Engineering, Director-General of the World Eco-Design Organization, and Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Industrial Design Association, delivered a video address.
The forum included a morning keynote session and four afternoon breakout sessions. In the morning keynote forum, speakers discussed the theme Digital Technology-Driven Design Innovation: Exploring New Trends in Future Design. Scholars delivered presentations covering a range of topics, including digital art and design, construction and dissemination of digital cultural maps, digital spatial design, innovative development of packaging design in the digital era, and artificial intelligence and interaction design. The afternoon featured four specialised sub-forums, focusing respectively on wide-area design combining AI and data, applications and innovations of digital technology, user-centred integrated innovation, and cutting-edge digital-plus-X topics. Nearly 100 scholars from around the world gathered to discuss the latest trends and future directions in digital technology and design innovation.
Additionally, the paper submissions for this forum achieved great success. After rigorous peer review, more than fifty high-quality research papers were accepted for EI indexing and presented either orally or as posters. These papers covered various subdivisions of digital technology and design innovation, showcasing the authors' latest research outcomes and innovative thinking in the field.
The successful convening of this forum not only promoted the integrated development of digital technology and design innovation, but also provided participants with a valuable platform for showcasing research achievements and exchanging academic ideas. Scholars attending the forum expressed their intention to use this event as an opportunity to further deepen their research, contributing actively to the innovation and development of the design field in the future.
