To further deepen the internationalisation of higher education and showcase the achievements of cross-cultural art education, the International Institute of Creative Design (IICD) organised the exhibition entitled D-Dream, featuring the 2022 Cohort Digital Media Art Major Study Abroad Achievements in Korea and Curatorial Internship Course, on 3 January 2025 in the third-floor hall of the Co-Op Comprehensive Building at Changning Campus. Institute leaders, faculty from various departments, returning undergraduate students from the 2022 cohort, as well as current undergraduate and postgraduate students gathered to witness this academic and artistic event.
The exhibition featured outstanding creative works produced by 49 students from the 2022 Digital Media Art cohort during their one-year study period at Dongseo University in Korea. The exhibited works span various fields including animation design, interactive experiences, digital games, and virtual reality, fully demonstrating students' professional development and cross-cultural exploration abilities gained in an international learning environment. This exhibition also forms a significant part of the curatorial internship course, guided by Dr Wang Zhi and lecturer Yin Zhijie. Through curatorial practice, students not only honed their artistic expression but also enhanced their teamwork and planning capabilities, highlighting the effective integration of digital media art education and practical experience.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Gu Yi, Dean of the International Institute of Creative Design, highly praised the returning students and encouraged them to maintain their spirit of exploration in future studies and creative pursuits, transforming the gains from cross-cultural exchange into even deeper artistic works. Professor Kim Jong-Ki, Dean from the Korean side, inspired students to continuously explore creativity, challenge themselves, and strive for greater achievements in the fields of international and Glocal design.
The atmosphere at the event was vibrant and enthusiastic. Institute leadership and student representatives jointly cut a ceremonial cake symbolising the fruitful outcomes, celebrating the opening of the exhibition and warmly welcoming returning students. Students eagerly introduced their works to faculty members and peers, sharing their creative concepts and the stories behind their works. Faculty members carefully viewed each exhibited piece and voted for those they found particularly impressive. The displayed works vividly illustrated the students' innovative capabilities and global perspectives within the Digital Media Art major.
The exhibition will run until late February this year. It not only showcases the students' learning achievements but also acts as a vivid demonstration of the institute's internationalised educational approach. Through this experience, students have enhanced their academic and artistic capabilities within a globalised context, thus providing valuable insights and experiences for the institute's ongoing internationalisation strategy. This exhibition has successfully built a platform for cross-cultural exchange and learning, highlighting the forward-thinking and academic excellence of the International Institute of Creative Design in the field of Digital Media Art education.
